[edit] Character Outline

Viper in infant form

Viper is the holder of the Indigo pacifier. He is a member of the elite assassination team, the Varia, under the name Mammonマーモン. Known as the Arcobaleno's best spellcaster,[1] Viper has the ability to cast illusions, as well as being able to locate any person by sneezing into a piece of paper (he carries a roll of paper with him); the spit or mucus that sticks to the paper shows a map leading to the desired person.[2] He also has a black frog named Fantasma that lies on top of his head. By turning into a yellow ouroboros (a snake, devouring it's own tail and also an alchemist's symbol), which forms into a "halo" above him, Fantasma can give Mammon the ability to fly in combat.[3] He claims to have been trying to break the Arcobaleno curse, and had sealed his pacifier so that other Arcobaleno cannot sense him with the Mammon Chain , which also seals the power of rings and boxes and such.[1] The chain is replaced, at least by the Vongolas, by the cap that conceals the rings powers the same way as the chains.

[edit] Varia arc

During the ring conflict, he defeats Chrome Dokuro with no problems,[1] however, he is defeated by Mukuro once the latter takes possession of Chrome's body, but he managed to survive, because he left enough energy.[4] [5] He is voiced by Rumi Shishido in the anime.[6]

[edit] Arcobaleno Trials

Viper is the third administrator of the Arcobaleno Trials. He trials Tsuna, Ryohei, and Yamamoto. He used in the trial his special ability: viper mirage.  Everyone was surprised when they heard Verde told Viper to test out a prototype box weapon. Reborn said that he had a bad feeling about this

During Verde's trial, Viper attempts to stop a Pawn missile from making it to Namimori, although his efforts were thwarted by a substance which was later revealed to be similar to the Non Tri-Ni-Sette, which Verde uses to capture the rest of the Arcobaleno, sans Aria. Unlike the actual Non Tri-Ni-Sette, the substance only paralyzes them, as opposed to outright killing them. It later turns out that the captured Arcobalenowere revealed to have been illusions done by Viper as soon as he saw the substance released again when all the Arcobaleno were present.

[edit] Weapons

Before he was turned into an Arcobaleno, he was a first class psychic who added illusions to his repertoire. It was seen he could also fly before he was turned into an Arcobaleno as seen in episode 142. His psychic abilities where that he was a telepath and he could also dowse things through fotograph, so that he could find things and people. As an Arcobaleno he still has all his power, but his illusions have been strengthened. The most used illusions by viper are the illusions of clones of himself and the illusion of tentacles coming from underneath his hood. His pet Fantasma, is what gives him the ability to fly. In one occasion, episode 40, he even showed he could teleport.

[edit] Trivia

  • He dislikes being called by his old name Viper.
  • In the Varia Arc , it was mentioned by Mukuro that he was a greedy Arcobaleno.
  • He was hired by Skull to help in the trial but Mammon left because Skull doesn't have any money left to pay him.
  • He was told by Verde to test out a prototype box weapon during the Arcobaleno trials, in which he comments that the box weapon was indeed helpful in fighting many battles.
  • In episode 150, when Reborn ordered Skull to get drinks for all Arcobaleno (except for Verde who was absent) Mammon asked for Strawberry Milk showing that he's possibly the youngest among the Arcobaleno
  • Due to recent color pages from Akira Amano, Mammon 's gender is currently being hotly debated among fans.  Since Mammon has never removed his/her hood, this is not yet official.
  • Viper is incorrectly labeled as the yellow Arcobaleno in the English manga.
