Template:Infobox Groups and Teams The Vindice or Vendicare are the masked guards who protect the laws of the Mafia world. All Vindice are former Arcobaleno that have survived the removal of their Arcobaleno Pacifiers, united under a single cause by Bermuda von Veckenschtein, the founder of the organization. Their mangled bodies under their bandages are a result of the removal. They each carry a stone Pacifier as a testament to their former life as an Arcobaleno, which was left as a remainder after Checker Face forcibly removed their original Pacifiers.

Those who defy their laws are said to be arrested without hesitation and are doomed to spend the rest of their lives in an inescapable prison known as the Vendicare Prison, though their allies can negotiate their release, as shown in the Future Arc by Ghost and Mukuro Rokudo's release.

The Vindice have been around for as long as the Mafia has existed, with them being the vocal point of the agreement made between Giotto and Cozarto Simon.

Their reputation among the Mafia World precedes them, as they are said to show no mercy, even to devils. It is clear they attract a great deal of fear, as anyone, even Reborn, states that it isn't wise to mess with them.

While the true extent of their powers are unknown, although they are obviously quite powerful as they are all former Arcobaleno, it is known that only three Illusionists in the world have the power to deceive the Vindice.

The strength of the Vindice is immense, as they had to guard two of the strongest Guardians from high ranking Famiglias, Mukuro Rokudo of the Vongola Famiglia and Ghost of the Millefiore Famiglia. Another implication of their immense strength is the fact that they themselves have stated that they could've taken care of Daemon Spade if they wanted to.

However, the Vindice cannot create their own Flame of Night; they rely on Bermuda to supply them with the Flames.

The Vindice also appear to use Rings as one of them used his/her Ring to project an image of Mukuro's profile to Iris. The Vindice also take extreme precautions to protect anyone from knowing about the Flame that they use.

Plot Overview

Kokuyo Arc

After Tsuna defeats Mukuro, the Vindice arrive and take Mukuro away in cuffs and chains. Tsuna tries to stop them, but Reborn tells him that this is "justice." The Vindice disappear with Mukuro and his followers.

Future Final Battle Arc

Flan appears at the Vindicare Prison in Europe, disguised as Iris Hepburn, and convinces the Vindice to release Mukuro Rokudo from his cell. They agree. The real Iris Hepburn later visits the Vendicare Prison on behalf of Byakuran, negotiating the release of Ghost. The Vindice, however, insist that they have already released the prisoner the Millefiore are after. Iris confirms that the Vindice have been tricked, though they insist that there are only three illusionists in the world that could deceive them.

Inheritance Ceremony Arc

The Vindice appear on the Simon Famiglia's Island as the Vongola arrive. They state that they are present to fulfill the "promise" made between Giotto and Cozarto. As the Vongola and Simon were bound by their friendship, the Vindice are to ensure that the two Famiglias never cross swords. They also state that, in the conflict between Vongola and Simon, the losing side is to be erased from existence by being confined in the Vendicare Prison for all eternity. Enma expresses his interest in this promise and agrees to it.
The Vindice wait for the end of each battle, before taking away the loser and giving a key to the remaining Guardians. In case of a draw, the Vindice simply take away both participants. All prisoners are shown to be suspended in a water tank at the lowest level of the prison.
In a flashback, after G. and the rest of Giotto's Guardians except Daemon Spade had helped the Simon Famiglia to escape from a battle, Giotto and Cozarto came to an agreement that the Simon Famiglia would disappear from the Mafia world. Upon this being said, a Vindice by the name of Bermuda Von Veckenschtein appeared before the two bosses, stating that he arrived to seal the deal between them.

Then, after the battle between Daemon Spade and Mukuro Rokudo, they appear again, telling Tsuna and his family that Daemon Spade was going berserk inside Mukuro's body and only a matter of time for a prison break to occur. They told Tsuna and his family to deal with him because he was still part of the Vongola Famiglia, and all of his actions had been done as part of his duty to the Famiglia, therefore, it was their responsibility to stop him in return they will free the imprisoned members of Vongola and Simon. Afterwards, the Vindice claiming to possess the will of revenge that Bermuda Von Veckenschtein possessed gave them a reward for subduing Daemon, an eighth key that revealed Giotto and Cozarto's acceptance that although they may not be together at the moment, their descendants would one day be able to laugh together again.

The Curse of the Rainbow Arc

Vindice defeat Team Skull

The Vindice arrive and defeat Team Skull

The Vindice suddenly arrive at the end of the second day of battle and easily defeat Team Skull in a matter of seconds. Bermuda von Veckenschtein and Jager appear to lead them. Six Vindice, including Jager, take Team Skull's watches and become Representatives for Team Bermuda.

After the end of the second day of the tournament, the Vindice appear and attack all the remaining teams in the tournament, violating the tournament rules. During their attack on Team Verde, Mukuro realizes that the Vindice are going for the kill. After the Arcobaleno return from their meeting, the Vindice retreat. In the third round, 3 Vindice with watches appear and begin to attack Team Mammon. 3 Vindice appeared and attacked Team Reborn and Team Verde. When Team Verde and Team Reborn ally to fight off the Vindice, their black robes and hats get blown away. After the smoke clears, the Teams Verde and Reborn are in shock, as each one of the Vindice have a Pacifier around his/her neck. Yamamoto, Gokudera, Ken, and Chikusa are defeated, leaving Tsuna and Mukuro cornered, until Chrome's arrival. With the combined illusions of Chrome and Mukuro, two of the Vindice are defeated with the last one, Jack defeated by Tsuna. Shortly afterwards, Bermuda appeared, bringing Reborn and Tsuna into Vindicare Prison to reveal the truth behind the Arcobaleno and Representative Battle of the Rainbow. Later, when Tsuna and Reborn returned after defeated by Jager, Fon revealed that Mammon used his remaining curse release time to escape from the Vindice since Xanxus and Squalo are heavily injured, though this won't work for the second time, as stated by Mammon himself.

At the fourth and final day of the tournament, Bermuda, along with his remaining team members went separately for the final battle. Unbeknownst to them, Team Reborn, Team Verde, and Team Mammon have allied themselves, making them Allied Teams in order to defeat them. They bait the Vindice to split up by using Decoy Puppets in three different places so Tsuna and his unit able to defeat them one by one while Jager and Bermuda are occupied by Dino, Mukuro, Xanxus, Squalo, Byakuran, and Hibari until Tsuna arrives. As planned, the Vindice were defeated one by one, but Jager had also defeated Squalo, Byakuran, Xanxus, and Dino, leaving them heavily injured until only Mukuro and Hibari are left. Tsuna arrives in time to help Hibari from Jager's attack and with the combined efforts of the remaining members, Tsuna is able to defeat Jager. Refusing to lose, Bermuda entered the battle by using his un-cursed form and quickly cornered Tsuna and Reborn. However, he was eventually defeated when Tsuna entered Ultimate Dying Will Mode after being shot by Reborn's Dying Will Bullet.

Checker Face revealed himself, much to their shock and reveals his true identity as Kawahira and the truth behind the Tri-ni-set. After he finished his story, he was about to take the pacifiers, but Talbot arrived with seven jars and proposed another way to keep the Tri-ni-set to Kawahira without having any need for Arcobaleno. To do so, the Flame of Night possessed by Bermuda is necessary. Bermuda immediately agreed since that means they could take control over the Tri-ni-set away from Checker Face's hand, fulfilling their revenge. After convinced by Yuni to agree with Bermuda's terms and filled the jars with Seven Flames of Sky, Bermuda and the Vindice took the jars with them, protecting it for eternity so there wouldn't be anybody changed into Arcobaleno ever again.

Appearance

All Vindice commonly are wrapped in bandages all over their bodies. They also wear black torn cloaks and black hats. Although, some Vindice also wear some kind of accessories or another addition of clothes like a scarf or badge, and the cloaks' style slightly differs from one another. Behind their appearance, their bodies are rotten due to their flames being removed from their pacifiers, making them look like zombies with stone pacifiers hanging around their necks.

Trivia

  • "Death gods" and "devils" are some of the names that the Vindice have gained through their fearsome reputation.
  • During the Future Arc, the Vindice's speech was written entirely in katakana, but ever since the start of Inheritance Ceremony Arc, it's started to be written like all characters in the series.
  • Mukuro once stated during his conversation with Iemitsu that he had most of his abilities taken away, making him unable to use his full power. This might indicate that the Vindice are capable of taking or sealing away their prisoner's abilities in some way.
  • Aside from Bermuda von Veckenschtein and Jager, the Vindice are always shown in sets of three.
  • Aside from Bermuda, Jager and the other four named Vindice, there are two unnamed members.
  • The Vindice have no feelings other than hate. Though, Small Gia has been shown able to feel excited and happy during his battle, something that the other Vindice so far hasn't shown.
  • Only three illusionists have the power to fool the Vindice; Flan and Mukuro Rokudo are two of the known three; however Viper, in his released form, has shown that he too is capable of using illusions powerful enough to fool the Vindice, though it was stated that the trick would not work a second time.
  • Jager stated that it was the law that no one without a physical body can use the Flame of Night that they use.
  • It stands a good possibility that the Vindice are currently the most powerful group of characters within Reborn!, as Byakuran, Daemon Spade, and Reborn, some of the most powerful characters in the series, state it is wise not to mess with them. Because they are all former Arcobaleno, the strongest seven of an era, this statement is reasonable.
  • The Vindice become stronger if they are in their true form.
  • Before the decisive battle in the Curse of the Rainbow arc, Bermuda declared that they would no longer be the guardians of Mafia law before revealing their true form. Now that they have chosen to keep the Tri-ni-set safe for all eternity by keeping the Flame of Night lit, it is unknown if they ever returned to being guardians of the Mafia law again.
