Mukuro Rokudo (六道 骸, Rokudō Mukuro) is the Kokuyo Arc's primary villain. Later on, he becomes Tsuna's Mist Guardian. Portrayed as the series' first primary antagonist, Mukuro Rokudo is introduced as a 15-year-old (former) Mafia criminal and the leader of the Kokuyo Gang, which consists of heinous criminals who have recently escaped from an Italian prison. However, later on in the series, he takes on a more supportive role for the series' main characters, becoming somewhat of an ally rather than an enemy, though he prefers to not consider himself as one of their allies and avoids any involvement with the Mafia due to his past.

Despite often being shown with a playful smile, Mukuro is seemingly apathetic to the suffering of others. Appearing as the series' first antagonist, Mukuro is not averse to disposing of those who get in his way and is not easily intimidated, usually speaking to others in a very direct and arrogant manner. He cares little for others, and simply considers people to be "toys" or "tools" he can sacrifice in order to get what he wants.

Despite claiming that people are just toys, he is considerate towards his subordinates, particularly both Ken and Chikusa, and possibly, Chrome, protecting them and even sacrifice himself when it's necessary. However, he does not directly do so in front of them and never admits it openly, hiding what he truly feels about them from everybody.

Mukuro, along with Ken and Chikusa, has a great hatred for the entire Mafia underground, most likely due in part to the experimentations they suffered as children. However, not only does he have the desire to destroy the entire Mafia, he also wants to invoke world suffering by starting a world war, claiming to want to cleanse the world with darkness because he sees the current world is worthless.

Even after becoming the Mist Guardian, Mukuro still claims to no longer be part of the Mafia, having been exiled from it, and continues to view the organization with great contempt, though he now prefers to avoid any involvement with them. Mukuro is also quite knowledgeable of the Mafia's dark secrets, even the secret behind the Arcobaleno.

However, despite his usual calm demeneaor, he is easily angered in some occasions, mostly whenever his or Chrome's hair is compared to a pineapple, in which case he would immediately give the offender a punishment, both ruthlessly and comically. So far, only Ken and Flan have violated such a taboo.

During most of his appearances, Mukuro wears the green Kokuyo school uniform with the buttons of the jacket undone, revealing a shirt with a misty design (shown to be a short-sleeved shirt in an ending). During his fight with Mammon, he wore a different outfit. Like in his initial appearance, Mukuro wore gloves, but also had a dark green jacket, trousers, and a darker-colored shirt.

Ten years later, Mukuro's hair is longer and is tied up at the back, similar to Ricardo. From his first appearance to the end of Choice, he wore a black jacket, a white T-shirt, a black necktie and black trousers with boots, including two white belts. After being freed from the Vendicare Prison, he wears a shorter jacket, a shirt with buttons, white trousers, and tall black boots and tied up his hair in the similar way as Yuni.

When Tsuna and the others came back to the past to complete the Arcobaleno Trials at Kokuyo Land, Mukuro communicated with Chrome and asked where she had been for past few days. He commented that she looked like she'd been through a tremendous ordeal and let her keep the secret for herself. He said that he will always by her side no matter what happens. After Colonnello's Trial finished, Mammon, disguised as Tsuna, appeared in front of Chrome and yelled at her to bring out Mukuro. Mukuro appeared out of anger, asking who was bullying Chrome. Mammon baited Mukuro to come outside, where the real Tsuna came to give Chrome rice balls, and where Mukuro will arrive at the same time as Hibari. Hibari and Mukuro then immediately battled each other rather than attack Tsuna.

While Tsuna was trapped inside Daemon Spade's illusionary mist, he fired a weak X-Burner at Daemon, but it turned out that he was in fact firing it at Chrome, Haru, I-Pin and Kyoko. In an instant, Mukuro appeared in Chrome's stead and protected the girls with his trident, stating that he couldn't let other people run wild in his territory. He then got angry at Daemon for torturing Chrome the past few days, saying he noticed this because he had been observing Daemon for a while, but did not want to interfere until Daemon had pushed him too far. When Daemon asked what he intended to do, Mukuro replied that he could deal with him directly, but would let Tsuna handle it instead. Tsuna attacked Daemon, who would have gotten absorbed into the illusionary mist again if Mukuro hadn't gotten rid of it, allowing Tsuna to fire his X-Burner directly at him. After reappearing, Daemon said that he had a few questions for Mukuro, whom he called the Mist Guardian, much to Mukuro's disapproval. He tells Daemon his dislike to be referred by the title as he did not earn that title by choice and revealed his goal to destroy the entire mafia and conqeur the world, much to Daemon's shock and amusement. When questioned why he saved the girls, he simply replied that Chrome would be upset if they got hurt and he personally doesn't care whatever will happens to them. Seeing that Mukuro has more potential than the other Guardians and fulfill the role of Mist Guardian, Daemon deemed him worthy of his inheritance. Mukuro, however, who has no interest with it, returned to his own body as he entrusted Chrome to Tsuna.

After witnessing the sixth key, Mukuro and Daemon clash with their weapons as Daemon comments that Mukuro is better than he had ever thought, then deciding to not hold back, to which Mukuro replies that he wouldn't have it any other way. When Daemon reveals his cards and explains that his illusions are stronger than him due to the combined flames of Mist and Desert, Mukuro responds by revealing the ore of the Mist Vongola Gear and upgrades it to the Mist Earring Version X and commands Mukurou to Cambio Forma, changing his Trident into a khakkhara. Mukuro traps Daemon within his illusions and manages to make Daemon lose his perception, defeating him. As Daemon turns back into Julie and become unconscious, Mukuro bids him farewell. When Daemon finally disappears, Mukuro goes back to his original body, telling the arrived Tsuna to take care of Chrome.

However, he later surprises everyone in the room when he possesses Mukorou, the box animal and starts talking. He is shocked himself because while he was on the verge of going back to his body, he was cut off. That leads him to the conclusion that when he was possessing Chrome's body, Daemon took advantage of his own soulless body and possessed it for his own before he does.

When Daemon finally arrived back with new appearance and power, Mukuro tells Tsuna to destroy Daemon no matter what the consequences to his body. Stating that Daemon's soul has fused with his body and has become a monster and they will lose everything if they didn't fight him with everything they have. As Tsuna hesitates to shoot Daemon in afraid of killing Enma when he catches Daemon, Chrome jumped to Enma's side and creates Mist Barrier with Full Power so Tsuna would shoot. Mukuro interjects that her flame is not strong enough to defend XX Burner and supports her with his Flame, making him exhausted. After Daemon was defeated, Mukuro returned to his own, beaten-up body.

Mukuro expressed his interest in Verde's intelligence despite their mockeries towards each other, which Verde returned the same and stated that he wished to defeat Tsuna, and destroy Vongola Famiglia. Verde told Mukuro that he could quit if he wants to as the situation has became more dangerous and he wanted to devote himself for his research, but Mukuro refused, saying that there's still something that he needs from the Representative Battle of the Rainbow. Shortly, he left Kokuyo Land to go to Namimori town, and during his way, his watch suddenly announced one minute to prepare for the next battle.

They questioned what he was doing in Namimori, but he didn't feel like answering them and ready to fight. Mukuro's team arrived just in time as the watch announced that the time limit would be twelve minutes. Ken and Chikusa able to rejoin the battle by using the spare watches that hadn't been used. When they were about to start, however, three Vindices arrived. Verde suggested that they should temporarily team up with team Reborn, but Mukuro refused, confidently saying that with Ken, Chikusa, Flan, and Verde's invention, they could win against both team Reborn and Vindice. Flan, unfortunately, was asleep. Ken tried to wake him up, but Flan is sleep talking and didn't wake up by Ken's call. The Vendices attacked Mukuro and Tsuna, but both able to block their attacks. Having no other option, Mukuro and Tsuna decided for a temporary truce and fight the Vindice together temporarily. With combined efforts of both teams, they able to rip off Vendice clothes and witness their true forms with stone pacifiers similar to the Arcobaleno's each around their necks. The Vindice, Jack, complimented them as the first people to be able to rip off their clothes and saw their true forms before proceeding to attack them again. They easily overpowered Yamamoto, Gokudera, Ken, and Chikusa, knocking them unconscious and leave only Mukuro and Tsuna to fight. Mukuro ordered M.M to wake up Flan as they were at disadvantage, but Flan fainted again once he saw the Vendice. Realizing that he had relying on Flan too much, he decided to take the matters alone, unleashing Genjuu Gagaia. However, unlike the previous attack, the Vendice are able to destroy every single crow.

As he and Tsuna both cornered, Chrome arrived as Reborn's sixth representative, offering to support Mukuro's illusion. Seeing Chrome's weak condition, Tsuna questioned why Mukuro didn't help providing her with his illusions. Mukuro refused to answer, telling him that it was none of his business which angered Tsuna who then asked did he abandoned Chrome, much to Mukuro's annoyance. But Reborn tell Tsuna that it wasn't Mukuro's fault but Chrome's own problem, revealing that Chrome cannot accept Mukuro's illusions due to her conflicting feelings between wanting to be acknowledged as her own person by Mukuro or keep living with Mukuro's illusionary organs. Reborn understood Mukuro's decision to leave Chrome in Namimori as he wanted to keep a distance between them since Chrome's heart has been struggling. Mukuro stated that he wanted Chrome to become an independent soldier who can stand up on her own because he saw great quality of a warrior in her and he would acknowledge her once more if she were to come against him as part of Team Reborn, something which Tsuna disagreed considering her feelings for Mukuro. Once Chrome finally able to found her resolve, she support his illusions, using full power of her flames. This impressed Mukuro as her flames are even stronger than Flan but then soon turned into shock when he realized that the tranquility of her flames is different from usual, feeling his heart was being healed. With their flames at the fullest power, he and Chrome unleashed a much powerful version of Genjuu Gagaia, Genjuu Mugaia, defeating two of three Vendice.

After Tsuna defeated Jack and being sucked into Bermuda's warp hole in attempt to prevent Reborn being taken away and the third day battle ended, he and his team except M.M and Flan returned to Kokuyo Land to treat their injuries. Shortly after, Tsuna visited Mukuro to discuss something with him. The next day, he and Kokuyo Gang members, along with other people who Tsuna had contacted yesterday night gathered at Tsuna's house. There, Tsuna requested for all of them to fight together. Mukuro was one of three people who offered to fight Jager, and like Xanxus, he threatened to cut off their alliance if Tsuna disagrees until Dino finally came up with a solution.

After Jager defeated Squalo, Byakuran, and Xanxus, Jager begins to attack Mukuro, but Mukuro able to defend himself just in time before Jager's attack could hit him, avoiding grave injuries. After Dino was defeated, he and Hibari fight together against Jager until Tsuna arrives. Finally realizing that Jager only able to short warped his full body twice, Mukuro and Hibari protected Tsuna, and Mukuro stopped Jager's movements by freezing his arms while the latter stabbed through their shoulders, giving Tsuna a chance to defeat Jager with converted X-Burner. Heavily injured, Mukuro and Hibari collapsed, unable to fight any longer. Before Tsuna could finish Jager, Bermuda interferes and released his curse and destroys the battler watches of the collapsed team members, disqualifying them and only leaving Tsuna and Reborn to fight Bermuda.

Mukuro first came upon Chrome Dokuro, who was known as Nagi at the time, while he was taking a stroll through one of his illusions. When Nagi was thinking to herself about how her life would finally end due to a car accident that caused her to lose her right eye and most of her organs, Mukuro's voice tells her that it would not end. To his surprise, she was able to hear his voice and reply back, which is when he takes her into his Illusion. He told her that they are alike, and he proceeds to activate his Sixth Realm. By possessing her body, he created illusionary organs for her, allowing her to live. Although his essence resides in her body, he chooses to not take full control of her, usually only mentally communicating with her and appearing only when she is in dire situations, using her as a sort of communication tool. When Mukuro takes over her body, he uses a huge amount of energy in order to become a reality. However, this intertwines their existence; as long as Chrome is alive, Mukuro can exist, and as long as Mukuro exists, Chrome can continue living.

In the beginning of the series, Mukuro showed kindness and concern towards Chrome, constantly being nice and considerate whenever she's around, something that he had never done to anybody. He was somewhat possessive of her, calling her "My Chrome." He was also protective whenever he felt someone bully her and will immediately come to her aid whenever he was needed. However, during the final battle with Byakuran, he referred Chrome as 'ignorant little girl' who takes his actions and words at face value. Afterwards, M.M also implied that Mukuro was only using her to get out from Vendicare Prison. This is further proven when he kicks her out of Kokuyo after he was freed, with a harsh letter telling her to get out and telling Tsuna that he detested the current her. However, he later confronted her to check up on her health despite being in the middle of a battle. During the third day of Representative Battle, he finally revealed that he saw great potential in her and wants her to become independent soldier, but Chrome's refusal and weakening condition left him no choice but to place her in Namimori in hope she'll come against him alongside Tsuna to make him acknowledge her again. This showed that he had a great expectation for her strength and wanted her to be able to stand up for herself instead of relying on him.

Chrome, on the other hand, is loyal and admires Mukuro since the first time they met. She felt saddened when Mukuro kicked her out from Kokuyo, but continued to remain loyal and trust him, showing that she doesn't mind even if Mukuro is only using her. She even stated to herself that she loves him and want to always protect him. Her feelings towards Mukuro motivated her to become stronger so that he would acknowledge her once more and able to see her as individual. In the end, Mukuro's feelings towards Chrome remains vague, but it's strongly hinted that he genuinely cares for her.

Even though he hates the Mafia, Mukuro find Tsuna interesting and doesn't seem to hate him that much as he's different from most of mafioso he had encountered. Tsuna initially shows hatred towards Mukuro for what he had done, but as time passed, he had lost his hatred and now seems to have sympathy for him after knowing his past and his reason to become Tsuna's Guardian of Mist. Tsuna has often worried that something bad happened to him, though he also, at the same time, is quite afraid of him, mostly whenever Mukuro stated that Tsuna was his target. Mukuro himself seems to trust him enough when he asked Tsuna to protect his comrades, though he thinks that he has started to lose his mind asking favors from the Mafia, and still vowing that he would defeat him one day.

Character Outline

Personality

Despite often being shown with a playful smile, Mukuro is seemingly apathetic to the suffering of others. Appearing as the series' first antagonist, Mukuro is not averse to disposing of those who get in his way and is not easily intimidated, usually speaking to others in a very direct and arrogant manner. He cares little for others, and simply considers people to be "toys" or "tools" he can sacrifice in order to get what he wants.

Mukuro In Prison

Mukuro imprisoned in Vendicare Water Prison

Despite claiming that people are just toys, he is considerate towards his subordinates, particularly both Ken and Chikusa, and possibly Chrome, protecting them and even sacrificing himself when it's necessary. However, he does not directly do so in front of them and never admits it openly, hiding what he truly feels about them from everybody.

Mukuro, along with Ken and Chikusa, has a great hatred for the entire Mafia underground, most likely due in part to the experimentations they suffered as children. However, not only does he have the desire to destroy the entire Mafia, he also wants to invoke world suffering by starting a world war, claiming to want to cleanse the world with darkness because he sees the current world as worthless.

Even after becoming the Mist Guardian, Mukuro still claims to no longer be part of the Mafia, having been exiled from it, and continues to view the organization with great contempt, though he now prefers to avoid any involvement with them. Despite distancing himself from them, Mukuro is also quite knowledgeable of the Mafia's dark secrets, even the secret behind the Arcobaleno.

Appearance

Child Mukuro 2

Mukuro as a child

Mukuro is a fairly-tall teenager with blue hair in a so-called pineapple style. His left eye is blue and his right eye is red (normally shown with the number 'six' in the middle). In the manga, he also wears earrings, while in the anime, he doesn't.

When he was a member of the Estraneo Famiglia at a young age, he was shown to wear a plain white T-shirt, short pants, and no shoes. He also had shorter hair and a bruise around his right eye, indicating he had surgery. He was also shown, in younger form, wearing the plain white T-shirt when he was with Lancia's Famiglia.

Ten years later, Mukuro's hair is longer and tied up at the back, similar to Ricardo. From his first appearance to the end of Choice, he wore a black jacket, a white T-shirt, a black necktie and black trousers with boots, including two white belts. After being freed from the Vendicare Prison, he wears a shorter jacket, a shirt with buttons, white trousers, and tall black boots and tied up his hair in a style similar to Yuni's.

When he was called out by Daemon during the battle with the Simon Famiglia, Mukuro appeared wearing his former T-shirt, a jacket similar to the one he wore during the Mist Ring Battle, a pair of (possibly white) trousers and long black boots.

After being forced to possess Mukuro the Vongola Owl, Mukuro didn't make any changes to the owl's appearance besides its right eye and a zig-zag pattern and pineapple-like spikes identical to his own on top of its head.

History

Mukuro Distroying the Estraneo Family

Young Mukuro killed all of his captors

As revealed in a flashback sequence, Mukuro Rokudo was born into the Estraneo Famiglia and was one of the children experimented by the Estraneos. Five years prior to the main storyline, Mukuro killed his captors with his abilities and offered Chikusa Kakimoto and Ken Joshima, two children who were also experimented on, a chance to join him in his new quest to destroy the "insignificant" world.

Later on, Mukuro was adopted into a Mafia Famiglia in Northern Italy. However, unbeknownst to the Famiglia, Mukuro was periodically controlling one of its Members, Lancia, and using him to kill others, eventually making him kill his own Famiglia and several Mafia Famiglias in Northern Italy. Since then, Mukuro had Lancia under his complete control, using him as a "Fake Mukuro" who is eventually mistakenly identified as the real Mukuro in a picture, whereas the real Mukuro is said to have never been photographed, although on two occasions, the real Mukuro has been shown to have been photographed.

Anything else Mukuro did in recent years remains a mystery, but it is mentioned that he, along with Ken and Chikusa had been locked up in a high security Italian prison, which is reserved for the most dangerous of Mafia criminals who have even committed crimes against the Mafia itself. Two weeks prior to the Kokuyo Gang's appearance in the story, they staged a jailbreak on the eve of Mukuro's execution, resulting in the death of several wardens and prisoners, and later the escape of other dangerous criminals. Afterwards, they attended Kokuyo Middle School as foreign transfer students, and within a week were able to take over control of the whole school.

After Tsuna defeated Skull's octopus, he was able to stop Hibari and Mukuro's battle. He revealed that he had known all along of Mammon's disguise and merely playing along since he thought it would be amusing. He then requests Tsuna to not drag Chrome around outside his reach, and if that was not possible, to then protect her. After Tsuna promised this, he disappears, because he had already reached his limit.

He later appeared again while communicating with Chrome when she returned to Kokuyo Land after Verde's trial, and asked whether she was involved again with Vongola and Arcobaleno activities. However, he again let her keep it the secret for herself since all that mattered was that she was safe.

In an instant, Mukuro appeared in Chrome's stead and protected them, stating that he couldn't let other people run wild in his territory. He turns his attention to Daemon, angry at the latter for torturing Chrome few days ago, revealing he noticed this because he had been observing Daemon for a while, but did not interfere until Daemon had pushed him too far. After reappearing, Daemon intended to question for Mukuro, whom he referred as the Mist Guardian, much to Mukuro's disapproval.

During an all-out battle between the Wreaths, the Varia, the Vongola Guardians, Mukuro and his student, Flan, intervened by swapping the Vongola members with illusions in an attempt to learn more about the Wreaths' fighting styles and abilities.

This plan worked, as they were able to witness some of the Wreaths' special attacks without suffering any casualties. He later received the Mist Vongola Box Weapon from Chrome, which he used to analyze Ghost and was shocked to find that he is not a human. During Tsuna's battle with Byakuran, he and the others are forced to watch as they already used up most of their flames. After Tsuna defeated Byakuran, he was seen with Chikusa and Ken calling out to Chrome since it was almost time to go back to the past and told her that it was good seeing her again, calling her Nagi. Later, his past counterpart was seen receiving the memories from that Future's battles from Yuni. When Chrome went back to Kokuyo Land, he switched places with her and commented that this would be interesting, while he looked at his Vongola Ring and Vongola Box Ring.

Inheritance Ceremony Arc

Mukuro Appears Angry

Mukuro arrives

When Daemon undone his mind control on Chrome, he revealed that he wishes to fight Mukuro. He procceed to remove the barrier of the Simon Island and the illusionary organs from Chrome. He shouts for Mukuro to come out, taunting him that Chrome will die unless he saves her. Mukuro immediately appears, replacing Chrome. Furious at Daemon, he comments that Daemon has lost sight of the times of his death, calling him a putrid rotten mafia.

Daemon comments that with one glance, he could tell that Mukuro is an amazing technique user, to which Mukuro replies that he could see the same and calls him the epitome of everything he detests. This amuses Daemon who continues to saying that while he understands why Mukuro takes offense, emotions like anger can weaken him and instead offers him to have some tea to calm him down. Mukuro quickly declines this and states that he will take him into the realm of the dead.

Mukuro's Cambio Forma Version Vongola Gear

Mukuro unleashes his Cambio Forma

However, he later surprises everyone in the room when he possesses Mukurou, the box animal and starts talking.

After the battle, the Vindice freed Mukuro from their prison due of his efforts in helping to defeat Daemon. One week afterwards, Hibari is said to have gone to challenge Mukuro at Kokuyo Land, leaving Namimori Junior High temporarily in Adelheid's care. Unfortunately for Hibari, Mukuro was not present at that time.

The Curse of the Rainbow Arc

Search for Flan

Mukuro loses his patience

Mukuro intends to attack Flan

Mukuro left Chrome behind in Kokuyo Land with a letter that telling her to get out and a Namimori-Middle uniform. Shortly after, he convened Reborn to talk about Chrome and explained that he wanted to get ahold of Flan who was living in France and thus, leaving Chrome in Namimori along with her living expenses, but not telling his reason for leaving her.

When they arrived in countryside of France called Jura to recruit Flan to their team, they ended up meeting Varia. When they found Flan, Mukuro approached him as his master but quickly furious once Flan mistook him as a fairy and compared his hair with pineapple. After finding out that Flan has lost his memories of his future-self and cannot stand with Flan's constant mockery, both he and Squalo said to each other that they could have Flan. Mukuro refused to take Flan into custody with excuse that he's busy and cannot stand his stupidity that needs to be cured first with Varia's facility and then afterwards, he will get him back. After the arguments with Squalo, they decided to conclude with a game of ladder with the loser must take Flan into their custody. However, Flan interrupted and stated that he already decided which group he will go with, later revealed that he has chosen Kokuyo.

Declaration of War

Afterwards, Mukuro and his gang went back to Kokuyo Land and he was seen talking with Verde, who asked

him to listen to his favor that Mukuro found interesting. Mukuro then asked Verde what he should do. The next day, Mukuro and his gang approached Tsuna, declaring a war against them as he had sworn to himself that he would defeat Tsuna the moment he was freed from Vendicare Prison. Tsuna, however, refused to fight him. Knowing this, Mukuro replied that he would fight him nevertheless if it was for Reborn's sake. At this, Verde appeared and revealed that he was the one who brought them to Namimori, requesting the Kokuyo Gang's assistance for the Arcobaleno fight. Mukuro expressed his interest in Verde's intelligence despite their mockeries towards each other, which Verde returned the same and stated that he wished to defeat Tsuna, and destroy Vongola Famiglia. Before he left, Tsuna questioned him about Chrome and surprised when Mukuro answered that they can look after her as he detested the current Chrome, telling them to take good care of her and left.

Later, a day before the Representative Battle, Mukuro is seen with Verde when the latter shows him his new inventions for the battle, his alleged "weapons of the next generation".

1st Day of Representative Battle of the Rainbow

The next day, during the Representative Battle, while he and his team are fighting Team Colonnello and Team Yuni, he sends his illusion to Chrome. He tells her that he came not to take her back with him, but to check if she was getting better, but found that, as he had expected, her condition has worsened. He demands her to tell him everything about her current condition; otherwise, he reveals that she was going to die, shocking Chrome. He continued saying that if her condition gets even worse, she would only have about three days to live in which her health would deteriorate rapidly as he revealed the cause of her illness.

Afterwards, he was seen back at Kokuyo Land discussing the result of the battle so far and praised Verde's machine. However, Flan then interrupted, saying that both of them said insincere things that they didn't actually mean it and mocked Mukuro's hair as pineapple hair as he made his apple hat into pineapple shaped hat, much to Mukuro's annoyance who then started to stabbing his hat and increased his illusionary training twice from before as punishment. He then said to him that he wants to use their new equipment at the second day of Representative Battle with his help, to which Flan willingly agrees to.

2nd Day of Representative Battle of the Rainbow

At night of the second day of the Representative Battle of the Rainbow, Mukuro, along with Flan, Ken, and Chikusa attacked Reborn's team and Yuni's team. He disguised himself as Kikyo, destroying Zakuro's wristwatch, and then encountered Tsuna, fighting him. When Colonnello launched Maximum Rifle, he managed to protect his wristwatch from being destroyed, but was injured in the process. With Flan and himself injured, as well as Byakuran's boss watch destroyed and Tsuna left to confront Iemitsu, Mukuro saw no merit in continuing to participate in the battle and retreated with Flan.

Vindice's Assault

Not long, however, shortly after Checker Face announced Team Bermuda's participance, a Vindice appeared in Kokuyo Land and attacked Mukuro and his gang with intent to kill, leaving him no choice but to fight. Mukuro was saved by Flan's illusion and protected his boss watch, but heavily injured.

3rd Day of Representative Battle of the Rainbow

Tsuna & Mukuro Alliance

Tsuna and Mukuro decides to fight together

At the park, he encountered Tsuna, Reborn, Yamamoto, and Gokudera. Verde suggested that they should temporarily team up with team Reborn, but Mukuro refused, confidently saying that with Ken, Chikusa, Flan, and Verde's invention, they could win against both team Team Reborn and Vendicare. Flan, unfortunately, was asleep. Ken tried to wake him up, but Flan is sleep talking and didn't wake up by Ken's call. The Vendicares attacked Mukuro and Tsuna, but both able to block their attacks. Mukuro ordered M.M to wake up Flan as they were at disadvantage, but Flan fainted again once he saw the Vendicares. Realizing that he had relying on Flan too much, he decided to take the matters alone, unleashing Genjuu Gagaia. However, unlike the previous attack, the Vendicare are able to destroy every single crow. As he and Tsuna both cornered, Chrome arrived as Reborn's sixth representative, offering to support Mukuro's

illusion.

4th Day of Representative Battle of the Rainbow

When Bermuda and Jager received report that Team Verde members they defeated were decoy puppets like other two teams, Jager suggested that they should go to where Big Pino and Small Gia are to prevent them being defeated one by one. However, Mukuro, Dino, Squalo, Xanxus, and Byakuran revealed themselves from their cover, preparing to fight them to prevent them from assisting their teammates.

After Bermuda was defeated and Arcobaleno's curse are removed, Mukuro, Chrome, and Flan are submitted into Namimori Hospital along with the Varia, Hibari, Byakuran, Dino, and Basil, much to Tsuna's surprise. When Hibari was angered by the interruption caused by Xanxus and Byakuran, he destroyed the wall that led to Mukuro's room, making Mukuro and the other Kokuyo Gang members who are visiting them startled and he accidently crushed his chocolate ice, which angered Mukuro and they started to fight, destroying some parts of the hospital. In the final chapter, Mukuro is last seen along with his gang when Tsuna narrates his thought of how now he has friends that he could rely on when it's necessary.

Relationships

Chrome Dokuro

Chrome & Mukuro in 88

Chrome & Mukuro

Mukuro first came upon Chrome, who was known as Nagi at the time, while he was taking a stroll through one of his illusions.

In the beginning of the series, Mukuro showed kindness and concern towards Chrome, treating her with more care than what he normally shows others. He was somewhat possessive of her, referring to her as "My Chrome." He was also protective of her and would come to her aid whenever he was needed. However, it's implied that Mukuro might just be taking advantage of Chrome to free himself from his prison, and even referred to her as an ignorant little girl who takes his words and actions at face value. This is further proven when he kicked her out of Kokuyo after he was freed, with a harsh letter telling her to get out and telling Tsuna that he detested the current her. However, he later confronted her to check up on her health despite being in the middle of a battle. At the third day of Representative Battle, Mukuro finally revealed that he left her because saw great potential in her and wants her to become independent instead of keep relying on him.

Ken Joshima & Chikusa Kakimoto

Ken & Chikusa

Kakimoto Chikusa and Joshima Ken

They are subordinates of Mukuro since childhood. Ken and Chikusa are very loyal to Mukuro, who had saved them when they were younger, and they willingly help him even if it costs them their lives, referring Mukuro as 'the place where they belong'. Mukuro sometimes feels irritated when they start fighting and even referred them as his tools; however, while Mukuro never express pure feeling of friendship for them, he trusts both of them and actually cares for both of their well being as far as sacrificing himself to be captured by Vendicare and making a deal with Iemitsu to become Tsuna's Guardian of Mist in exchange for their safety.

Lancia

Lancia & Little Mukuro

Lancia and young Mukuro's former relationship

Both are not on good terms. Five years prior the Kokuyo Arc, Lancia's boss found 10 year old Mukuro and adopted him into Famiglia with Lancia who took care of him and at that time, he regarded Mukuro as his true family, treating him with compassion. However, this turned out to be part of Mukuro's plan that later possessed Lancia and forced him to kill his own Famiglia and several other Mafia Famiglias in northern Italy. This made Lancia develop great resentment towards Mukuro and stated that he has no intention to forgive him. Ironically, due being possessed by him for five years, Lancia could feel that Mukuro is better than anybody else. Mukuro on the other hand, thought of Lancia as his tool and is apathetic towards his suffering, continuously using him to carry out crimes. When he knew of Xanxus plan, he indirectly asked for Lancia's help to assist Tsuna and the others. Mukuro used to refer to him as "Senpai" when he was taken care by him before he controlled him, and in several occasions had been shown to still referring to him as his senior.

M.M

M.M at first, said that she likes Mukuro for his money and prefer to date him for it. However, in the future, it was hinted that she hold feelings for him to the point of being possessive, saying to Chrome that Mukuro is hers and will kill her if she dares to touch him. She is also one of his subordinates to call him without any honorific, calling him "Mukuro-chan." Despite her affection though, she also found that he is a fearsome person. M.M was one of people whom Daemon stated are important to Mukuro. Though, Mukuro, on the other hand, had never shown any particular feelings towards her.

Tsunayoshi Sawada

Even though he hates the Mafia, Mukuro finds Tsuna interesting and doesn't seem to hate him that much as he's different from most of mafioso he had encountered.

Kyoya Hibari

Mukuro has a rivalry with Hibari, even in the future, since Mukuro had defeated him during the Kokuyo raid. This event left great humiliation for Hibari and made him agree to become the Vongola Cloud Guardian after Reborn promised him that he can fight Mukuro again to make sure to pay him back for his defeat. Mukuro seems to be interested in Hibari's strength, as seen when he fights him the second time because Hibari could still move even though Mukuro had broken several of his bones. He continues to show a particular interest in him when he asks his subordinates Ken, Chikusa, and Chrome to watch Hibari's fight to be the official Cloud Guardian against the Gola Mosca in the Cloud Ring Battle. This interest also continues into the Future where Mukuro sends a possessed owl to spy on Hibari, an event that was photographed. Ironically, despite not getting along with each other, both able to become good partners in battle. Reborn points out they fight in sync, possibly because they respect each other to a certain extent.

Flan

Again!?

Flan being stabbed in the head the third time

Flan is Mukuro's disciple in the future and so far the only Mukuro's subordinate who boldly insults him without any fear. Due to Flan's antagonistic personality, even though he calls him "Master," Flan often mocks Mukuro by calling him "pineapple head". Mukuro also admitted to Byakuran that Flan was more like a poor-skilled brat than a comrade and also called him a useless disciple, going so far as to stab his frog/apple hat into his head several times with his trident to express his annoyance towards him and to tell him to shut up. Mukuro's annoyance toward Flan is so big that he immediately changed his mind once he knew that Flan lost his memories and refers to him as "pineapple fairy" when he attempted to recruit him until his "stupidity was cured". In spite of this, Daemon stated that Flan is one of people that is important to Mukuro. In the manga, Future Mukuro refers to him as "Little one".

Daemon Spade

Mukuro initially didn't pay much attention towards Daemon during his inheritance trial. However, Mukuro immediately shows a bitter resentment at Daemon when had used Chrome just in order to lure him out, which intensified when Daemon possessed his body. Mukuro referred Daemon as rotten mafia and epitome of everything he hates, indicating that Daemon is the very kind of mafia that he detests. Mukuro's resentment towards Daemon was strong enough to the point where he told Tsuna and the others to defeat Daemon when he possesses his body by any means necessary even if it means consequence damage or destroy his own body. Daemon doesn't return this hatred and is interested in Mukuro and found his body as a perfect vessel that he has been looking for and acknowledges his power as skillful illusionist.

Verde

Mukuro has a somewhat awkward relationship with Verde, both had been shown to let out insults towards each

Mukuro and Verde

Mukuro and Verde

other; Mukuro described Verde as perverted scientist with his head a bit off while Verde described Mukuro as impertinent weirdo with bad habits that exceeded his calculations, but just being near him made him shudder. Mukuro is only interested in Verde's intelect and already commented that it was better if Verde was only a brain and nothing more, only curious on how much Verde's research could improve their fighting capability. Verde only chose Mukuro as his representative because of his charisma and because he and his team are the best-fitting match with his intellect that he could only find based from his research, which disappointed him. The only thing that made them agree to work together is because they wanted to defeat Tsuna and Reborn, whom they see as their enemies. Ironically, none of them realized that they have some things in common and even could say exactly the same thing at same time, a sentiment that has been pointed out by Mukuro's subordinates. Mukuro refers to Verde as "Professor Verde."
