Tsunayoshi Sawada is a 14 years old student at Namimori Middle School. He is famously known as "No-Good Tsuna" due to his severely low self-esteem and lack of talent in any activity. He has a crush on the most popular girl at his school, Kyoko Sasagawa. When he arrived at his house after school, his mother, Nana Sawada informs that there'll be home-tutor to teach him today, much to Tsuna's dismay. Shortly after, a baby in black suit and fedora suddenly appeared in their house, introducing himself as Reborn and the home-tutor who has been assigned to teach Tsuna. Upon this declaration, Tsuna immediately laughs at him, thinking it was all just a joke. Hearing this, Reborn immediately kicks Tsuna until he is unconscious and brought him to his room. Once Tsuna is awake, he explains that his true purpose is actually to train him to become a Mafia Boss since he is the great-great-great grandson of the first boss of Vongola Famiglia. Tsuna flat outly refuse to believe it and tells him to leave, but unfortunately, Nana says that Reborn will stay here until his assignment to teach him is done.

The next day, Reborn follows him to school despite Tsuna's protest and quickly realized his secret crush towards Kyoko when he hid behind lamp post as Kyoko passing by. Changing his chameleon into a gun, he tells Tsuna to die once and shot him right on the forehead. A flame suddenly burns up from Tsuna's forehead with his clothes torn up, leaving him only with his boxer and he revives again as he shouts that he will declare his love for Kyoko. Tsuna chase after Kyoko and confess to her in front of the school gate, making Kyoko embarrassed and ran away. This leaves Tsuna heartbroken and blames Reborn for what happened. The next day at school, Mochida announces Tsuna's confession to the whole class and challenges him to a competition with the one who has the higher score in the next text would be the winner with Kyoko as the bet despite the said girl's discomfort. Tsuna leaves the class in fear and discouraged as he ponders that he would never win since he is always no good. Reborn interrupts, questioning whether he is satisfy with it and tells him that he should try first before giving up. Once again, Reborn shot him with Dying Will Bullet, turning Tsuna into Dying Will Mode.

Tsuna rushes back to class and starts reading his books for the test determinedly, surprising the entire class. Done studying, the test start with Tsuna out of Dying Will Mode and bandaged onto his chair due tot he after effect of Dying Will Mode as he does his test. The teacher gives back the result of the test. Mochida says that he got 99 points, cheering as he thinks he has won. However, Tsuna then says that he got perfect score, 100 points, shocking everyone. The class cheers and congratulates Tsuna. Tsuna is amazed that for the first time he feels he has achieved something right. He looks back at Kyoko and is happy to see her smiling at him and inwardly thanked Reborn for his help. He goes back to his room, wanting to tell Reborn that he finally become friends with Kyoko, but didn't find him anywhere. Several days later after Reborn's disappearance, Tsuna wonders that he already left because he able to get a perfect score because of his help. However, his thought was interrupted by Reborn's arrival who explains that he only left to get some things necessary to train him to become a great boss and proceed to shoot him again with Dying Will Bullet so they could start training. The story ends with Tsuna beg Reborn to let him rest after the continuous training in Dying Will Mode, which Reborn completely ignored.

Differences with the first chapter of the serialization mangaEdit

  • Reborn never mentions about the other candidates of Vongola when he explain it to Tsuna, Tsuna is the only candidate for the position.
  • Mochida is not present when Tsuna confessed his love for Kyoko. In the serialization version, Mochida walked with Kyoko to school and punched Tsuna after he confessed to Kyoko.
  • Mochida challenge Tsuna to a study competition instead of kendo duel like in serialization.
