CEDEF

Iemitsu Sawada, Basil, Lal Mirch, Turmeric, and Oregano

Members of the "Consulenza Esterna Della Famiglia" (Italian for "External Advisers of the Family" or CEDEF) are members of the Vongola Famiglia that remain outside the direct control of the main family. They hold very little power during times of peace; however, they become a very important part of the family during times of crisis because, at such times, the CEDEF leader becomes the family's second-in-command. They also have as much voting power as the Vongola Boss when choosing the Family's next Boss. If the Vongola Boss and the leader of the CEDEF disagree on who the heir will be, the CEDEF leader has the power to split the Vongola Rings and send their half to the candidate of their choosing. The next heir is chosen when the half-rings are reunited.

Members

Oregano indicates that there are 6 members of the CEDEF, not counting Iemitsu or Basil. Members of the CEDEF seem to be named after herbs and spices, with the exception of Iemitsu. This is a possible reference to the Shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu, who granted 39 species of herbs to be planted to help create the Owari Clan herbal garden Ofuke-Oyakuen. Known members of the CEDEF are:
